Little Anna is quite the November born, Obama baby; complete with a pink, hippie smock. We had the pleasure of documenting a few morning moments with her on Christmas Eve, but just remembered that we never officially shared these. I actually love the ones with her crying, not that we tried to make her cry, but she has a beautiful range of emotions. She’s landed herself in the middle of a warm, open couple, and we can’t wait until we can hang out again. We hope you enjoy all that is babydom! (and, as always, comments are welcomed!)
After many a trip to our inner and outer thoughts, desires, necessities, goals, and intuition-we’ve found ourselves living in Portland, Oregon. We have left the sweet bosom of the Midwest, and fell into the loving arms of the West Coast.
Many factors played a role in this decision-it has been a gleam in our eye for several years. Maybe in a visual way, the image above, isn’t just in our heads as a dream place-it was a weekend trip to the coast. It has been such an inspiring experience, and is pushing us as individuals, a couple, photographers, and designers. It was a leap of faith that happened to land on something (seems like an extended vacation) but we are so glad we went for it. We are saddened that we aren’t physically as close to our friends and family, but in some ways, we’ve found stronger relationships in this move. We hope that all of you are finding your own way, where ever and whom ever that may involve. (Man, I hope I used “whom” right…that’s always a tricky one.)
Know that our location is not stopping us from accepting weddings in Kansas City, and is only further expanding our love of new places. We are going to become even more of a resource for talented Kansas City wedding vendors, as well as featuring venues and new things that we find here in the Portland Wedding Scene. And, in another post, we have a cozy studio space in the Crossroads to sublet!
With Much West Coast Love-Mary and Her Joel
During the recent Wedding Hive show, we had the opportunity to carve out a few minutes for fashion shoot goodness with Janay A, Ornamental Petal, and Scarlett Garnet. Janay A Handmade features handmade separates, custom gowns, including vintage lace detail, handmade veils, hair pieces and most recently, garters. Janay’s shop is over in Union Hill, so stop in to check out her wonderful bridal collection, as well as handmade, washable, everyday wear. Bridget Kelly with Ornamental Petal did the amazing bouquets, and Garnet Backer with Scarlett Garnet creates handmade jewelry, inspired by vintage materials and eclectic pieces.
We haven’t done many fashion sessions, and never done a ‘photo booth’ type setup, but it was fun to experiment. I loved that people were just roving around throughout the images; added an uncontrollable element.
