2010 was an amazing year for the Wedding Hive and all of it’s members. We’ve seen our businesses grow and our lives change in such a positive way and a lot of it has to do with the support of our fellow Kansas Citians. However we’re still small business owners and find ourselves so busy managing our own day to day activities that we can’t devote the time and attention to the Hive that we think it deserves, and we’ve decided as a group to bring the group to an end. We will leave this page up as a resource for people to still find great wedding vendors. Please follow the links below to see what all of our core members are up to:

Blue Window Creative: After moving to Portland this year Mary and Joel have continued their own beautiful brand of wedding photography and design. They’ve come back to Kansas City many times for weddings, so if you’re looking to add a unique touch to your wedding contact them to learn more. See their work at www.bluewindowcreative.com.

Cakes by Joe: Joe was recently accepted to the Culinary Institute of America where he will be studying in order to further his career in the pastry arts. emmy-ray: Beginning her third season of floral design Emily has more clients than ever. You can find examples of her floral designs at www.emmy-ray.com. As the primary blogger this past year for the Wedding Hive site, Emily has decided to continue writing about all things wedding on her new site www.middleofthemapweddings.com. In the same vein as the Wedding Hive, she’s looking to use this page as a platform to support local indie vendors, along with DIY tutorials, and images from beautiful, real, midwestern weddings.

Genevieve Flynn: Genevieve Flynn Studio will be moving from its Crossroads Arts District area of downtown Kansas City, MO to the Brookside area, just south of the Plaza. (For those of you in the Kansas City area). The studio will continue to offer silversmithing classes, workshops and a new Visiting Artists program. This move will allow Genevieve to have more time to be creative and still offer many possibilities to those budding artists that are interested in working in metal.

Janay A Handmade: Janay is launching a new -and very special- limited run Wedding Gown collection for 2011, created with amazing Organic Silk/Hemp eco friendly fabric. Details? Scarlett Garnet: The dynamic duo that make up this indie business, Katie and Garnet, have been extremely busy this year. Traveling all over the country to craft show, garnering new retail locations, and creating two brand new lines of jewelry. Garnet also opened a Kansas City studio and has been hosting First Friday events, as well as trunk shows, and jam sessions with talented local musicians. That’s right, the time has come for the Holiday Honeypot Shop. It’s this weekend, Saturday December 4th, at the beautiful River Market Event Place. We’ll have all kinds of items from lots of different talented Kansas City designers. Richard volunteered to help us out this summer at the first every Honeypot Shop by spinning some sweet tunes. He certainly didn’t disappoint, and was also fun to work with. His music selection was eclectic and anything but boring, and we received more than one compliment. Richard’s specialty is weddings, so if you’re looking for a DJ for your wedding that won’t play the same old play list check out All Ears Mobile DJ.

We always like to keep track of what our Hivers are up to, and the other day we came across something pretty amazing. An interview on roadtripnation.com all about Michelle Dreher of Two Tone Press. The conversation focused on the idea that instead of sitting around talking about what you want to do, go out and do it. Michelle’s dream was to open her own letterpress printing studio and shop. She’s had her studio for awhile and just recently found a spot in Kansas City where she will soon be opening up her very own retail store front to sell her awesome print work and teach workshops. Congrats Michelle!
